Piano Recital

Gavin had a piano recital last week. He worked really hard for it and memorized his songs, but he always had the sheet music up as a backup. I told him to bring his music just in case, but when he walked in the room for the recital, one of the other kids said, "Hey, you can't use your music." So, when it was Gavin's turn to go up I tried to hand him his music, but he said, "No, that's okay." I think he thought he wasn't allowed. He got up there and went slowly through the first two measures of the song and got nervous and forgot the rest. He ran from the piano all sad...poor guy. I felt so bad for him. He had such a good experience with his last recital, but now he says he's "never doing a recital again!" Luckily, everyone still clapped for him and congratulated him afterwards on how brave he was to go up there and how hard it is to play in front of everyone. I think he'll still try it again next time...
Here he is getting his prize after the recital...I think he was feeling a little better by then...especially since the kid who told him that he couldn't use his sheet music went up there and also forgot his music and stopped partway through to say "I forgot!" I said, "see Gavin, other people forget too, and it's okay."
